π Community Initiative! I run a free monthly tech training program for Darwin residents.
Rida National Plastics is a large-scale manufacturing operation with a sizeable workforce spanning factory, warehouse, and sales functions. My role extended across the full breadth of the company's technology needs β from Active Directory migration and structured network cabling through to security surveillance, health and safety systems, and a GPS-based field sales tracking solution.
The organisation's computers were operating in a peer-to-peer workgroup environment, creating significant limitations in access control, security policy enforcement, and centralised user management. I planned and executed a full migration of all users and devices from workgroup to an Active Directory domain on Windows Server, delivering:
Centralised user account management and authentication
Group Policy enforcement across all domain-joined workstations
Role-based access control aligned to departments and job functions
Improved security posture and simplified IT administration across the organisation
The sales department required a purpose-built network environment to support both data connectivity and CCTV coverage. I planned and deployed a full structured cabling solution across the department, delivering:
40 network points covering both data and CCTV infrastructure
Cable routing, termination, and patch panel configuration
Network switch installation and port assignment
Validated connectivity across all points prior to handover
The sales team operated across multiple markets and customer sites, with limited visibility for management to confirm scheduled customer visits were being completed as planned. I designed and implemented a location tracking solution using Google's location tracking tools on Android devices assigned to the sales team, enabling:
Real-time tracking of sales representative movements in the field
Verification of scheduled market and customer visits against actual GPS data
Management oversight of field activity without requiring manual reporting
Accountability and performance visibility across the entire sales team
The existing surveillance infrastructure at Rida's facility left significant coverage gaps across the factory floor, warehouse, and perimeter. I led a small team to design and deploy a purpose-built 68-camera IP CCTV network, covering every phase from initial survey through to live handover:
Site survey and planning β full facility walkthrough to map camera placement, coverage requirements, and cable routing
Procurement β specification and sourcing of all hardware including IP cameras, NVR systems, cabling, and mounting equipment
Team coordination β directed the installation team across cabling, mounting, and equipment installation phases
Network configuration β IP addressing for all 68 cameras, NVR setup, remote viewing access, and live feed quality validation
Testing and handover β full system verification including recording, playback, and remote access confirmation
Dual-purpose deployment: Beyond security monitoring, the CCTV system was adopted by the Health & Safety department as an active operational tool β used for incident reviews, near-miss investigations, hazard identification, and safety training. This extended the value of the infrastructure significantly beyond its original brief, making it a core asset for both security and workplace safety governance.
Rida National Plastics gained a substantially upgraded technology environment across every dimension of its operations. The Active Directory migration brought enterprise-grade user management to a previously unmanaged environment. The structured cabling gave the sales department a reliable, purpose-built network. The GPS tracking solution gave management real-time visibility of field sales activity for the first time. And the 68-camera CCTV network delivered both comprehensive security coverage and a practical tool for health, safety, and compliance review β all delivered without disruption to ongoing production operations.
